Checking in

I feel like I haven't done a "proper" post in a while. I don't know why, really. I have been trying to stay off the computer more, keeping it off when the kids are home, but I'm still on in the evening so I'm not sure why I haven't been posting.

I've not had any specific projects on the go except for the guest room which I'll post about when I've finished it. Grant's parents have very kindly said we could turn their dressing room into a guest room (although it's still part of their home) and I've had fun pulling one together on a budget.

I have been so content throughout January, which is unusual for me (thank goodness for vitamin D!) Usually I'm desperate for spring, very impatient for any signs of its approach. This January I have felt so patient and content with things the way they are, secure in the knowledge that winter will eventually pass and perfectly accepting of its presence right now.

With February's arrival I've started planning our vegetable garden for the summer and have ordered a 4-year-old raspberry cane to join our two blueberry bushes that have arrived. I'll start planting seeds indoors soon, ready to plant out in April. We've bought paint for the wall in the back and we'll do that as soon as we have some milder weather.

Grant and I have been giving a lot of attention to our plans to emigrate in 3-4 years' time. We had decided on Canada, although Grant always wanted Australia, but we've since switched to either Western Australia or New Zealand and are doing as much research as we can to try to narrow down our decision. Any input will be gratefully received!

I have hardly touched my camera lately - must rectify that!
