2012 Books - July

Fearless Fourteen - Janet Evanovich

Although I have a good sense of humour and find lots of things funny, I don't tend to actually laugh out loud at things very often. It's just the way I am. And yes, someone telling me a joke is excruciating, because even if I'm really tickled by it I just don't naturally have a LOL reaction so I have to fake it so they don't feel bad. BUT Janet Evanovich's books make me genuinely laugh out loud. Like, I can't control myself and just burst out laughing.

When I was at the library and saw that her Stephanie Plum books were up to volume 17 I went home and requested the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th books online to catch up. Thoroughly enjoyed them, as always.

Comfort Food - Kate Jacobs

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I could relate to aspects of a lot of the characters. I enjoyed that there was a little romance thrown in but that it wasn't the whole focus of the book.

The Hand That First Held Mine - Maggie O'Farrell

Recommended by a friend. It was very interesting and I enjoyed it. The book explores two stories at the same time, linking them at the end. I would recommend it.

Finger Lickin' Fifteen - Janet Evanovich

A Stephanie Plum book, as mentioned above - enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Sizzling Sixteen - Janet Evanovich

A Stephanie Plum book, as mentioned above - enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Styling, Lighting & Photographing Food - Lara Ferroni

I don't usually include the non-fiction books that I read, partly because I don't always read everything from cover to cover, sometimes I skip bits. But I really wanted to include this book because it's awesome! I found out about it because I follow the author's blog and she mentioned it there.

This book was very informative and helpful, not just about food photography and styling but about the actual industry and what it's like to work as a food photographer. It clarified for my goals and made me really aware of what I do and don't want to do with food photography. Very helpful and highly recommended.

Smokin' Seventeen - Janet Evanovich

A Stephanie Plum book, as mentioned above - enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Love in a Nutshell - Janet Evanovich & Dorien Kelly

A light read, with a bit of mystery and romance. Enjoyable but nothing too memorable.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven - Mitch Albom

This was recommended by a friend and I absolutely loved it! I am planning on starting a book club and this is the book I want to start it with. It was interesting to read, well written and had some beautiful and profound thoughts in it. Highly recommnded.

Make, Take, Murder - Joanna Campbell Slan

I enjoyed the scrapbooking slant to this mystery. An easy read.

So that's it for my July reads. What are you reading nowadays? Any recommendations? Have you read the Stephanie Plum books and do they make you laugh out loud? Are you Team Ranger or Team Morelli?
