2013 Books - February

The Gentle Art of Domesticity - Jane Brocket

I have read this book before and loved it just as much this time. I plan to buy it to add to my collection. Highly recommended!

The Giving Quilt - Jennifer Chiaverini

The last of the Elm Creek Quilts books - no more for me to read, boohoo! Loved it as much as all of the others and would recommend the whole series.

Chinese Cinderella - Adeline Yen Mah

Book club book (Andrea's choice). It was a quick and easy read but it just didn't capture me. I felt sorry for her for the way she was treated, but in the same way I would feel sorry for a stranger in a newspaper - I just couldn't bond with and feel for the writer in an intimate way. The whole thing fell a bit flat for me.

An Echo in the Bone - Diana Gabaldon

The last published book of the Outlander series. I feel bereft!! Now I have to wait until the end of the year for the last one to be published and then ... is there life after Outlander?? I have loved this series so much and have started buying the books for my personal library as I will definitely reread them. However ... I felt a bit let down by this book's ending. It just felt a bit rushed. The events weren't talked through as usual, just laid out one after the other. Plus there was a massive cliffhanger. But I still highly recommend the entire series and still loved this book.

Bridging the Gap - Kelvin Cruickshank

I enjoyed this book more than the other one I've read by Kelvin Cruickshank. Very interesting man with very interesting experiences. Would recommend.

The Small Hand - Susan Hill

A ghost story. Easy to read, mildly entertaining.

The Sweetest Thing - Cathy Woodman

Somewhat predictible and the main character annoyed me a little sometimes because she can be a pushover, but I still enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I might even check out some of the other books by this author.

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake - Aimee Bender

This book was ... stranger. And just seemed to get stranger. I read the whole thing and don't regret it but ... strange. Odd. Oh, and I found the somewhat pretentious lack of quotation marks annoying! Why?!?

Swimming with Dolphins - Deborah Wright

Gently entertaining chick-lit. Enjoyable but won't change your life.

Sleepless Nights - Sarah Bilston

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. It comes after Bed Rest, which I haven't read yet but have plans to. It stands alone, though.

And then, lastly, two books that I started but put aside and chose not to read:

Going Dutch - Katie Fforde

I hadn't really enjoyed another book by this author and only started reading this one because I ran out of reading material on a Saturday evening. Really couldn't get into it.

Sixty Acres and a Bride - Regina Jennings

After three chapters I just wasn't into it at all so I moved onto another book.
