2013 Books - April

The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes - Diane Chamberlain

I absolutely loved this book - best book so far this year. Grant read it and enjoyed it too. Highly recommended.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry - Rachel Joyce

One of our book club books. I enjoyed it and would recommend it. It was enjoyed by those in our book club who read it.

Below Stairs - Margaret Powell

This is a memoir written in the sixties by a woman who was a kitchen maid in the 1920's. I really enjoyed it and could picture it well as it's the time period in which Downton Abbey is set. Some parts had me laughing. Would recommend.

Where the Heart is - Billie Letts

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Trim Healthy Mama - Serene Allison and Pearl Barrett

This book is extremely informative but easy to read at the same time. Heaps of great information about nutrition, hormones, how the body responds to food, exercise, etc, that is written in a conversational style that is enjoyable and not text-booky. I highly recommend this book!

Happier at Home - Gretchen Rubin

This book is written by the author of The Happiness Project. There is a little repetition but I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Twenties Girl - Sophie Kinsella

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

That Certain Spark - Cathy Marie Hake

This is a Christian romance. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it - I have already checked out more books by this author.

Family Roundabout - Richmal Crompton

Written in the 1940's and set in the 1920's onwards. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

The Forgotten Garden - Kate Morton

It was a little confusing at first since the story skips between 3 characters in 4 different time periods, but once I got into it I absolutely loved this book. Highly recommended.

Plate to Pixel - Helene Dujardin

I absolutely loved this food photography and styling book and would highly recommend it.

Forevermore - Cathy Marie Hake

Christian novel. I loved this book - the main character is absolutely delightful and I enjoyed the story. Would definitely recommend.

Books I started but couldn't finish:

The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger

This was the second of our book club books. I couldn't read it. Besides the confusion of the hopping around of dates, I have issues with loss and couldn't stand that she kept losing him, and that he wasn't in his child's life consistently.

The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern

This book was highly recommended on this blog but it just didn't do it for me. I read a quarter of the book before putting it aside because I just didn't care about what happened.
