2013 Books - May

Serendipity - Cathy Marie Hake

A Christian romance, loved it, would recommend.

These Things Hidden - Heather Gudenkauf

This was one of our book club books. It was similar to Jodi Picoult's style. I did enjoy it and would recommend it.

Whirlwind - Cathy Marie Hake

You know I love this author, so of course I enjoyed this one too and would recommend.

Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends - Pippa Middleton

I enjoyed this book. It is so British it made me homesick. Would recommend.

A Walk Across the Sun - Corban Addison

This was the other book club book this month. A good read - disturbing, compelling and interesting. Would recommend.

Notorious Nineteen - Janet Evanovich

Another in the Stephanie Plum series. I enjoyed it and would recommend.

The Tea Rose - Jennifer Donnelly

The first of a trilogy. Loved it and would recommend.

The Further Adventures of an Idiot Abroad - Karl Pilkington

Grant and I loved watching both seasons of An Idiot Abroad (the seven wonders, and the bucket list) so of course I enjoyed this book that Karl wrote about the second season. There was a lot of repeats about what was in the show (obviously) but there were plenty of anecdotes included that weren't included in the show. Would recommend.

The Palace Diaries: Twelve Years with HRH Prince Charles - Sarah Goodall

This is a book written by someone who was one of the secretaries to Prince Charles. I thought it would be more interesting than it was. It was written in a melodramatic tone that was quite childish, and the author irritated me immensely. I also don't know how much of it is true as it says it's "a story inspired by twelve years of life behind palace gates".

The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt: Letters from 1920s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired - Laurie Aaron Hird

A compilation of letters from 1920’s farm wives in response to the question, “Based on your own experience, would you want your daughter to marry a farmer”. It also includes patterns for 111 quilt blocks. I loved this book and would recommend it.

California Dreamers - Belinda Jones

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Pollyanna - Eleanor H Porter

I read this book in high school and thoroughly enjoyed reading it again. Would recommend. (It is slightly different to the movie, and more enjoyable in my opinion).

The Mother's Group - Fiona Higgins

A very good read, would recommend.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it.

The Penny - Joyce Meyer and Deborah Bedford

A Christian novel. Quite sad, but I mostly enjoyed it and would recommend.

A book that I started and just couldn't get into, so didn't finish reading:

Murder in the First-Class Carriage: The First Victorian Railway Killing - Kate Colquhoun

While very interesting, I'm sure, I just couldn't be bothered to wade through all of the detail as I had a stack of other books that I was wanting to read. Gave up after a few chapters.
