Quilt progress

I actually have three quilts on the go at the moment. Mainly because it's not as simple as sitting down to sew a quilt from start to finish - there are a lot of steps in the process. When I'm halted with one quilt (waiting for fabric to arrive) then I can get on with a different quilt.

Quilt 1

Seen here, here, and here. This is a king-sized quilt for our bed. I've finished piecing the quilt top (except for the border) and have ordered the backing fabric, which I'm thrilled with - can't wait for it to arrive.

Here's how I've done with the process:
  • decide on design
  • buy fabric for the front - [possibly still need border fabric; I'll see if I like the backing fabric for the border and if there's enough]
  • buy fabric for the back
  • buy fabric for the binding
  • buy batting
  • cut the pieces for the front - [still have to do border]
  • piece the front of the quilt - [still have to do border]
  • cut the pieces for the back unless using whole cloth
  • piece the back of the quilt if applicable
  • baste the quilt unless sending out to long-arm quilter
  • do the quilting / have the quilting done
  • cut and prepare the binding
  • machine stitch the binding on
  • hand finish the binding
  • wash and dry

Seen here and here. I've been busy working on this one this week as and when I have energy.

Quilt 3

This is a quilt for Noah. He has had a lot of input - in fact, I've had to rein him in at times and remind him that while I'm making the quilt for him, I am the one making the quilt and it's actually my project! Who knew he was so opinionated about quilts! Together we've decided on a design and fabrics that he is happy with. I just need to buy a little more, then I can start piecing. I'm actually really excited about this quilt; I think it's going to be fabulous when it's done.
  • decide on design
  • buy fabric for the front - [still need 5 more fat quarters]
  • buy fabric for the back
  • buy fabric for the binding
  • buy batting
  • cut the pieces for the front - [have done some but don't have all the fabric]
  • piece the front of the quilt
  • cut the pieces for the back unless using whole cloth
  • piece the back of the quilt if applicable
  • baste the quilt unless sending out to long-arm quilter
  • do the quilting / have the quilting done
  • cut and prepare the binding
  • machine stitch the binding on
  • hand finish the binding
  • wash and dry
