Two houses ago

I thought it would be fun to blog my decorating beginnings. You've possibly seen the before and after shots on my other website but I thought I'd post room by room with progress shots and the stories behind how and why we did things the way we did.

The house in question was in Ribbleton, Preston, Lancashire. It was the first home we bought in England and we got it for £37,000 ($54,000) - an absolutely insanely small amount by today's standards! We moved into it in April 2003.

We almost didn't go to view it. We had 5 house viewings scheduled that day and Daniel was giving me a rough time and I just felt pressured. I didn't know if Grant was going to be able to make it to the viewing in time. I felt like something had to give, and since the house in question had electric storage heating I picked that house as the one to cross off the list, without even seeing it. I cancelled the viewing.

When I told Grant, he flipped out and said we should at least see it, so I made another appointment. When we went to view it we were struck by how much bigger it was than other houses we'd viewed and how light and spacious it seemed. Thank goodness we went to see it! We ended up loving it and it's the house we've lived in the longest out of all of our homes - 3 years and 1 month. During that time the neighbourhood really went downhill, and I started my business and started earning, which is why we moved.

So, coming up ... the decorating. Watch this space. In the meantime, here is the house layout:
